Glass17 Collection Project

Date

2025

The Glass17 collection was made for a school assignment at Elisava. We were challenged to make a collection while studying in Barcelona.

While traveling Europe, I noticed that it is much more common to buy juice in small glass bottles than it is in the US, where I grew up. When the project was first introduced to us, I decided to collect bottles, since I had a few sitting around in my room.

As my collection grew, I realized that I had most of the bottles available in the markets in my neighborhood, so I decided to grow the collection to glass containers in general. A large portion of my collection became glass jars from sauces and vegetables. I ended up with 17 glass containers, which is how I came up with the name of my project.

Originally, I struggled a lot trying to come up with how to present my project. I removed the labels from all of the bottles to photograph them, but I found all of my pictures of the containers to be relatively boring. I decided to draw one of the bottles in Illustrator to use for the cover of my book, and I decided to draw all of the containers, because I really liked the way that the illustration turned out. I wanted to think of how I incorporate the colors and designs from the labels and caps into my book. This is where the idea for the backgrounds came from. I used the colors of the caps for the rectangles at the bottoms of each graphic. I picked the background color based off of the flavors of the juice. I used the logos from the brands, as well as the ingredients of the original contents of the containers in the backgrounds as well. After I finished all of my graphics, I printed, cut and bound a book.
